          Jean Bethke Elshtain, Laura Spelman Rockefeller Professor of Social and Political Ethics at the University of Chicagos Divinity School, will deliver a lecture titledSt. Augustine, Harry Potter and the Confrontation with Evilat 4 p.m.Nov. 3 (Wednesday) in the McKenna Hall auditorium at the University of Notre Dame.p. Part of the Arthur J. Schmitt Lecture Series, the lecture is sponsored by Notre Dames Graduate School and Center for Ethics and Culture and is free and open to the public.p. Elshtain joined the University of Chicago faculty in 1995 after previously teaching at the University of Massachusetts and Vanderbilt University.She is the author of 13 books, includingJust War Against Terror: The Burden of American Power in a Violent WorldandDemocracy on Trialand has co-authored or contributed to seven other books.p. The recipient of nine honorary degrees, Elshtain has been a visiting professor at Oberlin College, Yale University and Harvard University, and in 1996 was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.p. Established in 2001, the Schmitt Lecture Series is made possible by a gift from the Arthur J. Schmitt Foundation.
