Schlink is a professor of public law and legal philosophy. For many years he also was a judge on the German Constitutional Law Court in Bonn. Known for his work as a best-selling crime writer in his native country, Schlink captured international attention with his novel “Der Vorleser,” which, translated as “The Reader,” was featured as an Oprah Book Club selection in 1999. He also has written several books on constitutional law, fundamental rights and the separation of powers. Schlink teaches at Humboldt University in Berlin and at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York. During his visit, Schlink will introduce the Oscar-winning film based on the book, present a law lecture with faculty panel response on constitutional proportionality, and read from his latest novel The Weekend.
