As a part of the O’Hara Lecture Series in Business Ethics, McGurn will deliver a talk titled “The Economist and the Preacher: The Gospel of Freedom Meets the Dismal Science” at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the college’s Jordan Auditorium. The series is sponsored by Notre Dame’s Center for Ethics and Religious Values in Business.p. McGurn also will make a presentation titled “The Relevance of Just-War Principles after Sept. 11” at 12:30 p.m. Friday in 339 Mendoza. In addition, he will offer personal observations on the Sept. 11 terrorist attack. McGurn was on the way to his Wall Street Journal office near the World Trade Center when the twin towers were hit.p. A 1980 graduate of Notre Dame with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, McGurn earned a master’s degree in communications from Boston University a year later. Prior to his current assignment, he spent most of his journalism career abroad, working in the Journal’s Asian and European bureaus and serving as a senior editor for the Far Eastern Economic Review. He also was the Washington bureau chief for the National Review.p. McGurn is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships.
