The award was granted to support the translation from Chinese of the novel “My Life as Emperor” by Su Tong. Goldblatt has translated more than 30 novels and story collections by writers from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. His translation, with Sylvia Li-chun Lin, of “Notes of a Desolate Man” won the 1999 Translation of the Year Award given by the American Translators Association.p. Goldblatt specializes in Chinese literature and culture.
