John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., president of the University of Notre Dame, has offered prayers and support from the University to those affected by Hurricane Sandy. “As we continue to learn about the tragic consequences of this massive storm, it’s obvious this was a hurricane of historic proportions,” Father Jenkins said. “On behalf of the entire Notre Dame community, I offer prayers for all who have been affected, including alumni, families and friends of the University.” A Mass will be offered today (Oct. 31) at 5:15 p.m. in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart for all those impacted by the hurricane. Father Jenkins added: “To all members of the University community – here and worldwide – I ask that you consider assisting with relief efforts in any way you can.” Among the agencies involved in relief efforts are Catholic Charities USA and the American Red Cross.
