The Laura Shannon Prize, which carries a $10,000 award, will be given annually to the author of the best book in contemporary European studies.Beginning in 2010, the prize will be awarded each spring with the winning author to deliver an original lecture in the fall at Notre Dame. A five-member jury of eminent scholars in European studies will choose the winning author from a variety of fields. The categories will rotate on an annual basis between the humanities in addition to history and the social sciences. Nominations for the inaugural prize in the humanities will be accepted until Jan. 1, 2009. The publisher or the author may nominate books published in 2007 or 2008 for the competition.
