About $180,000 of the funding will provide three years of support for the annual Notre Dame Prize, which is the only award of its kind to recognize the efforts of public figures to enhance the regions welfare by strengthening democracy and improving the well being of its citizens. Established in 2000, the Notre Dame Prize has been awarded to some of the leading political, civil and religious figures inLatin America.
